These thirteen martyrs, burned alive in the year 1231 by the Roman Catholic occupiers of the island of Cyprus on the orders of their archbishop Andrew for refusing the Filioque, were: John the abbot, and the monks Conon, Jeremias, Mark, Cyril, Theoctistus, Barnabas, the two brethren Maximus and Theognostus, Joseph, Gennadius, Gerasimus, and Germanus.
