A morning in Glyfada, playing with the first rays of sunlight, observing the early swimmers, the pigeons, the yachts at rest, the sailboat offshore stealing the show, and everything else one sees as the day breaks and eyes open upon this chic town east of Athens.
Abandoned StarsI didn’t really have the heart to take photos of the legendary Ta Asteria (“The Stars”) hotel complex—once a haunt for the Greek and international jet set and a backdrop for numerous films in the 1960s. The only photo I managed to take bears witness to its current state of disrepair. According to the latest reports, the new Luxembourg-based owner was set to begin renovation work sometime in 2020, aiming for a reopening in 2021–2022. Let’s hope the stars regain their former glory and shine once more in Glyfada.
